Arrest Warrant For Vladimir Putin Issused

Vladimir Putin is likely to keep a quiet profile going forward. According to the AP, the International Criminal Court said on Friday that it had issued an arrest warrant for the Russian president for war crimes due to his alleged involvement in kidnappings of Ukrainian children.

Putin "is allegedly responsible for the war crime of population (children) deportation and that of population (children) transfer from seized territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation," according to a statement from the court.

On Friday, it also issued a warrant for the arrest of Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, the Russian Federation's Commissioner for Children's Rights, on related charges.

There are "reasonable grounds to believe that each suspect bears responsibility for the war crime of unlawful population deportation and unlawful population transfer from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, in prejudice of Ukrainian children," according to the ICC's pre-trial chamber. According to the Guardian, Russia has declared that it does not recognize the ICC's authority.
