Nashville Police Chief: Shooter Was "Under Doctor Care For An Emotional Disorder"

According to a police press conference on Tuesday, the person who carried out the mass shooting at a Christian school in Nashville on Monday lawfully purchased seven firearms; nevertheless, Audrey Hale's parents were unaware that the weapons were still in their house. According to the Tennessean, Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake claimed that Hale was "under doctor care for an emotional illness" and that their parents thought they shouldn't have had access to weapons. Drake claimed that Hale hid the firearms throughout the house after purchasing them from five nearby gun shops. The chief claimed that three of them were utilized in the shooting on Monday. The shooting at the Covenant School resulted in the deaths of three children, all of whom were nine years old, as well as three staff members.

According to Drake, the shooter's parents observed them leave the house early on Monday morning with a red bag. The chief stated of the shooter's mother, "They asked her what was in the red bag and I think she just ignored it because it was a motherly thing." Because she was unaware that her daughter had any firearms at the time, she chose not to examine inside the bag. According to the police, Hale predicted "something horrible" would occur to a friend that morning. Drake stated at the conference on Tuesday that if police had known Hale was homicidal or suicidal, they would have attempted to "grab those weapons," but "as it is, we had absolutely no notion, literally who this individual was, if she even existed."

Drake claimed that 28-year-old Hale had "some anger for having to go to that school" and that he had previously attended Covenant School. According to the AP, Drake used feminine pronouns to address Hale. Hale did use male pronouns on a social media site, a police official earlier on Tuesday claimed, adding that the gunman "was designated female at birth."

According to the Guardian, the chief complimented the cops in the unsettling police bodycam film that was made public on Tuesday. Police searched several areas of the school and confronted Hale before shooting him, as seen in the video. Hale was shot by Officers Rex Engelbert and Michael Collazo. Drake claimed that when the officers "heard shooting, they instantly raced to it and dealt with this terrible scenario."
