Florida Just Came Up With Ingenious Way to ID Registered Sex Offenders

Florida is taking a bold step to ensure the safety of its residents by introducing a new law that could help identify sex offenders more easily. Proposed by Democratic Senator Lauren Book, the addition to Senate Bill 1252 would require all vehicles owned or driven by registered sex offenders to have a bright green license plate, making it easier for law enforcement and members of the public to identify them.

This would be a significant breakthrough in identifying those who have committed sex offenses and could help prevent future crimes from occurring. The law would also make it illegal to obscure or disguise the license plate, ensuring that the identification remains clear and unmistakable.

NBC 2 reported that Sen. Book also wants all registered sex offenders to have the word “sexual predator” printed on the front of their driver’s license in the color red.

For this to become law, the Florida House and Senate would have to pass it and then Governor Ron DeSantis would have to sign it into law.

The Florida Action Committee fears the bill would wrongly punish the offender’s family members who might use cars with special license plates.

“This green license tag that says to people, ‘you’re a monster when they’re not’. That’s extreme punishment.

There will be a lawsuit,” Sarah Fiebig of the Florida Action Committee said. “There are unfortunately a lot of people out there that are vigilantes…and this would put a target on their back.”

This is a great idea. Kids and parents, and women could easily spot the cars in big parking lots where these types of predators roam around.
