Photos: Woman Trips Over Luggage, Gets Leg Stuck in Airport Escalator - They Had to Amputate to Free Her

You won't believe what happened at Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport. Prepare yourself, because this story will make you think twice about taking escalators again.

It all started innocently enough when a woman tripped over her suitcase while trying to get on the escalator. Unfortunately, things quickly went from bad to worse. She lost her balance and tumbled over, and to her horror, her leg got stuck in the machinery at the end of the moving walkway.

The consequences were devastating. The situation was so severe that doctors had no choice but to amputate her leg. Can you imagine the horror and pain she must have endured?

From The Sun:

Pictures showed the lower part of the woman's leg trapped underneath as she was helped by airport staff.
The chewed-up suitcase lying near her was missing two wheels, and the yellow comb-like plates were seen broken off from their position covering the end of the moving walkway.

A medical team eventually decided they had to cut the woman's left leg off from above the knee, according to airport officials.

She was then taken to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital in the capital for emergency treatment.

The medical team at the hospital said she was initially sent to Karun where she was told that they could not reattach her leg, but the woman requested to be transferred to another hospital to assess the possibility.

Airport authorities have ordered a probe to determine the cause of the accident.

Investigators believe that the wheels of the woman's suitcase were responsible for creating a gap big enough for her leg to become trapped in.

After learning about this incident, I must admit, I'm definitely rethinking my decision to bring a rolling suitcase on an escalator.
