Once the grenade was discovered, people inside the store freaked out and made a mad dash to escape, terrified for their lives. Naturally, the police were called in, but things got even more out of control when the bomb squad arrived.
I mean, talk about a truly insane situation, right?
From WGME 13:
Employees at the Falmouth Goodwill found a grenade in their donation bin Wednesday.
Police determined it was not active, but it did cause a scare.
Goodwill employees say they do have protocol for this type of donation. They immediately evacuated the store and called the Falmouth Police Department.
Officers brought in the bomb squad, who determined this was an inert grenade, which is often used as a military training tool and does not contain any explosives. The police did take the grenade off-site and said it would be safely destroyed.
This is not the first time a grenade has been donated to a Goodwill. There were two other incidents across the country of grenade donations just this year.
These instances of finding grenades in random places, like old belongings of relatives, really makes you question why they would keep such a dangerous thing.
I mean, come on, these grenades can still be live and ready to go. And to make matters worse, there have been cases where they've actually exploded, leading to tragic deaths.
