There's a young man from China who experienced it firsthand. He was at a concert of his favorite idol group, shouting with all his might when suddenly, bam! He felt this intense, sharp pain in his chest. Turns out he got a pneumothorax, which is basically a collapsed lung. He had a literal hole in his lung!
As you can imagine, he started having trouble breathing right away and eventually passed out.
From Oddity Central:
Pneumothorax is an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between the lung and the chest wall. It can occur due to blunt or penetrating chest injury, damage from underlying lung disease, or alveolar ruptures due to sudden or severe pressure. The latter is suspected to have been the cause in the young Chinese man’s case, as he admitted to shouting his heart out during the concert.
Doctors were able to remove the excess air and relieve pressure on his collapsed lung, and the 19-year-old is reportedly well on his way to a full recovery.
Interestingly, this is not the first time a fan has suffered a collapsed lung during a concert. Back in 2017, Western media reported the bizarre case of a young woman who suffered a pneumothorax because of screaming during a One Direction concert.
In the past, we’ve written about people suffering from collapsed lungs while doing karaoke and performing their usual morning stretches, so it’s something that can occur unexpectedly while doing all sorts of common activities.
Well, this has definitely triggered a new fear.
I suppose it's just a good ol' reminder for all of us to take care of our lungs and hope and pray we never experience a pneumothorax out of nowhere.
