The accused, Jazmin Paez, 18, was arrested for using the fake website RentAHitman.com to solicit the assassin's services and providing pictures of the child and the planned location of the crime.
From The Daily Mail:
Investigators pretending to be the rented killer spoke with Paez to find out more about her plan, which is when she agreed to pay out $3,000 for the brutal murder.
Authorities were quick to arrest her after matching the IP address to her home and talking to the toddler's grandmother, who verified that the child was the intended target.
Paez was charged with first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree using a communications device for unlawful use. She is currently being held in the Miami-Dade jail.
The child is in the safe custody of his family.
Robert Innes, who operates RentAHitman.com, tipped off the police after deeming Paez's request too urgent to ignore.
'The ability to research names and addresses and verify the intended target lived in a particular address. That to me is a red flag. If that information is corroborated, to me that is something that needs to be looked at and that's why I referred it,' he told NBC Miami.
Innes said the Miami-Dade police did not at first give serious consideration to his tip-off, and threatened to issue a cease-and-desist letter if he persisted.
Both the 'Service Request Form' and 'Careers Form' of the fake hitman website have been used several times to arrest people.
I don't know what's more horrifying about this story: the fact that this woman used a hitman website to plan her child's murder or the initial police indifference towards the case.
How on earth can police get tip like this and actually go as far as to threaten a cease-and-desist?
Thank goodness Innes persisted and was able to keep this innocent child safe.
We sincerely hope and pray that this child is safe and with caring family members, far away from his clearly mentally deranged mother.
