[VIDEO] 11-Year-Old Pee Wee Football Player Opens Fire on Teammates

Violence is on the rise in this country, and it has people of all ages committing various heinous crimes.

To underscore this fact, an 11-year-old boy in Florida has been arrested for allegedly shooting two of his football teammates. The altercation reportedly originated from a dispute over a bag of chips.

From Fox 35 Orlando:

The child, who is not being named due to his age, is facing one count of attempted second-degree murder, Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley said during a news conference Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the boy grabbed the gun from an unlocked box in his mother's SUV and fired toward another teammate, hitting him in the back. That same round is believed to have then struck another juvenile in the arm.

Both kids were taken to the hospital and are expected to fully recover, police said.

"As a society we need to reflect on this," said Chief McKinley "We see this too often in our society now."

"Juveniles, young juveniles…that have access to guns, but the more disturbing part is that they believe that gun, that firearm, is a resolution to their problem. And it's not a resolution to anybody's problems. It just creates more problems for everybody involved," he said.

Thank goodness these children are expected to make a full recovery, but imagine how profoundly their lives will still be altered by this traumatic event.

While the child responsible for this crime should not have had such easy access to a firearm, we, as a society, need to acknowledge the fact that guns are not the sole issue here.

Clearly, we have a mental health and moral issue in this country that no one wants to address. Instead, we just want to take the easy way out and blame it all on the weapon. In reality, guns have been around for decades upon decades, and this level of violence has never been seen previously.
