London Officer Faces 24 Counts Of Rape; Officials Feel More Victims Could Come Forward

One of the worst sex offenders in Britain is a serving member of the Metropolitan Police in London who has committed so many crimes, including 24 counts of rape. According to police, more victims may still come forward. According to the Times of London, David Carrick has admitted guilt to more than 80 crimes that were the subject of 49 indictments. It was alleged that twelve women were attacked during a 17-year period.

According to prosecutors, the 48-year-old used his authority as a police officer to reassure women that they would be secure with him before pressuring them to keep quiet about his attacks by claiming that no one would believe them over his, according to the Guardian. After Carrick entered a guilty plea to the last charge on Monday, tight reporting limitations in the UK were waived.

Despite having been accused of domestic abuse and burglary, Carrick was permitted to join the force in 2001, according to the Telegraph. Despite several complaints over the years, including charges of rape and domestic violence, he was permitted to continue working. According to the Guardian, the women who were attacked ultimately chose not to participate or withdrew their accusations.

According to the AP, London Mayor Sadiq Khan declared himself “extremely horrified and appalled.” “Londoners will be understandably astonished that this individual was allowed to work for the Met for so long, and significant issues need to be addressed about how he was able to misuse his position as an officer in this horrific manner,” the statement continued.

Carrick was also accused with assault and false imprisonment. According to investigators, Carrick imprisoned one lady for ten hours in a small cupboard.

Although he did not prowl the streets looking for victims, Detective Chief Inspector Iain Moor of the Bedfordshire Police said that the man spent time cultivating connections with women to sate his thirst for degrading and controlling them. Carrick was not suspended until a rape complaint was made in late 2021. Carrick was a member of a select armed force that guarded the Houses of Parliament and embassies. According to the Metropolitan Police, the procedure to fire him will begin on Tuesday.

Carrick should never have been let to become a police officer, Assistant Commissioner Barbara Gray said in her apology to the public on Monday, according to the BBC.
