After being photographed smacking his wife at a New Year’s Eve party in Mexico, UFC president Dana White issued an apology on Monday.
According to TMZ, White, 53, and his wife, Anne, spent the holiday at a resort in Cabo San Lucas.
White was seen on video appearing to speak to his wife, who suddenly got up and smacked White across the face. White smacked her back right away, then slapped her again after she collected herself. Other partygoers kept the two apart.
White told TMZ, “I’m literally making no excuses for this stuff at all. “This has never occurred before. It’s never occurred before, and it just did. People will say what they will say, and things will just be as they are. Anything said is justified. I’ve earned it.
White admitted in an interview with TMZ that he has previously criticized UFC fighters who have been charged with domestic abuse.
“There’s never ever a justification for a person to put his hands on a woman,” I’ve been saying for years, and now here I am on TMZ talking about it,” he stated.
The Whites have three children and been married for 26 years. Anne spoke to TMZ and provided a statement.
It would be an understatement to say that this is out of character for him, and nothing similar has ever occurred, she said. “Unfortunately, on New Year’s Eve we were both drinking too much and things went out of hand on both sides. The entire family has discussed this and apologized to one another.
