GOP Lawmakers: Why Hasn't National Archives Reviewed Biden Docs Held By FBI

The National Archives and Records Administration is being questioned by Republican legislators about how it handled and examined records found in the Boston office of a lawyer for President Joe Biden.

Following the first discovery of the secret files at the Penn Biden Center in Washington last November, nine boxes were found at the Boston office of attorney Patrick Moore. Acting Archivist Debra Wall stated in March that NARA had not examined those documents.

Now, according to Fox News, Republican Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Chuck Grassley of Iowa are requesting an explanation from NARA regarding a statement made by the agency's general counsel, Gary Stern, who they claim "revealed that, while NARA has not yet reviewed the contents of the nine boxes, the FBI has." The two are looking for information about the timing of the FBI review.

"It is unclear why you did not disclose that information if the FBI's examination occurred on or before your March 7 answer to us," they said. Whether or not NARA has taken any steps to guarantee that all records would be properly maintained before, during, and after the FBI's review is still unknown.

The two insisted that Wall give them information on the FBI investigation, including the name of the office that requested access to the files and the usual operating procedures NARA follows in such cases. Wall was given until April 3 to react.
