The microblogging service Twitter, owned by Musk, has made its premium membership tier, Twitter Blue, available to customers everywhere. Also, Twitter will start "winding down" its "legacy verified" program and removing the "legacy verified checkmarks."
Twitter Blue is now accessible everywhere in the world! The company made an announcement on Twitter, saying, "Join up today to get your blue checkmark, prioritized ranking in conversations, half advertisements, lengthy Tweets, Bookmark Folders, custom navigation, Edit Tweet, and Undo Tweet, and more."
Verified accounts do not need to pay Twitter's $8 monthly web fee or $11 monthly Apple Inc. iOS fee for maintaining their authenticity, notoriety, and constant activity. Included in this are public individuals and institutions that need to keep up their reputation. Customers of Twitter can choose to pay $84 for the remainder of the year. Twitter has provided no further explanations for the anomalies.
Accounts that want to keep their blue check mark have to meet certain criteria, such as having a photo and a display name, as well as having a phone number associated to their account for at least 90 days.
Since Musk acquired control of the firm, Facebook has shifted its income model from depending mostly on advertising to a software as a service one.
Many businesses stopped advertising on Twitter because of rising costs caused by inflation and because of Musk's plan to reinstate problematic personalities by allowing hate speech. Trump, who formerly held the office of president, has been given access to his account again, but increasingly favors Truth Social.
Coca-Cola, Unliver, Jeep, Merck, and Wells Fargo were just some of the major brands that decided to stop advertising. Among the Fortune 500, more than a thousand have advertised on Twitter.
Verification on Twitter used to be a mark of distinction, since it showed users and followers that the account they were following was genuine.
Musk first announced that Twitter Blue will be made available to everyone on November 1 of last year, but that it would come at a cost. His tweet at the time read, "Twitter's current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn't have a blue checkmark is crap." To the people, with power! Blue for $8 a month."
However, after the site was inundated by verified trolls who didn't hold back on attacking the Twitter CEO, the service was quickly disabled. In December, the service was relaunched on the platform.
As part of its verification process, Twitter is now rolling out a variety of badges to distinguish between different types of organizations, such as a gold check for verified businesses and corporations, a gray check for verified government organizations and officials, an affiliation badge for verified accounts that are connected to an organization on Twitter, and a badge for verified state-run media organizations and individuals.
