In an interview with Fox News, Mick Mulvaney stated that he is not backing his former boss because he "is not interested in backing a loser."
When Mulvaney appeared on Friday's Your World, Neil Cavuto questioned him on his support for Trump.
Would you back him if he was nominated? The host asked.
Mulvaney answered, "No. "I don't believe he can prevail. I'm not interested in supporting an underdog. In a Republican primary, he could prevail. He is, in my opinion, the favorite to win the GOP primary right now. But he's just chipping away at his own base for the reasons I mentioned five minutes ago on this death and destruction things and eating dinner with White racists and all the insane stuff he's been doing since he left office.
Mulvaney continued by saying that at this time, the former president is not winning over any new supporters.
He replied, "I'm not interested in supporting a loser. If you don't get more people to vote for you in 2024 than you did in 2020, you're probably going to lose.
Mulvaney continued by stating that in the general election of 2020, over 50,000 Arizonans supported Republican congressional candidates but abstained from voting for Trump, who lost the state by a margin of less than 11,000 votes.
There will undoubtedly be many people who are simply sick of Donald Trump, he said.
Mulvaney left the door open for him to reconsider.
Perhaps Donald Trump will make a significant adjustment between now and November 2024, he suggested. Who is to say? Yet, if you were to read the tea leaves right now, you would have to conclude that he won the Republican primary but lost the general election.
