Partners For Life! China And Russia Make Huge Decision During Moscow Summitt

The leaders of China and Russia decided to strengthen their relationship on economic and political issues on Tuesday in Moscow, further separating themselves from the US and other Western countries. But, on the second day of their discussions, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin could not come to an agreement on China's proposal for a cease-fire in Ukraine.

Putin later declared at a press conference, "Of course, we haven't neglected the situation around Ukraine," according to the Washington Post. Many of the peace plan's proposals, according to him, are in line with Russian objectives and may be incorporated into a settlement "when the West and Kyiv are ready for it," he said. Yet, up until this point, we have not seen such readiness on their behalf, he continued.

According to the New York Times, Xi, who refers to Russia's invasion as the "Ukrainian situation," said his country continues to desire peace negotiations. Tuesday saw the unannounced visit of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to Kyiv, which China's Foreign Ministry denounced, stating that Japan should "assist de-escalate the situation instead of the contrary." Xi claimed during the press conference that his nation has maintained its objectivity towards the conflict in Ukraine and is now on the "right side of history." According to the BBC, China's proposal calls for talks and respect for national sovereignty but does not directly demand on Russia to leave.

According to the Post, the Xi-Putin discussions were portrayed in Chinese media as proof of China's ascent to global leadership and of a new world order. The two leaders discussed a new economic order during Xi's three-day visit as a counterbalance to Western countries; their collaboration might lessen the impact of sanctions or other actions taken against them due to the conflict in Ukraine. "This visit will plainly tell the Americans that China is not to be scared," claimed an item posted on WeChat. Reports praising the depth of the alliance noted that Xi and Putin have now spoken at least 40 times, and they also mentioned that the two Chinese pandas that are on loan to the Moscow Zoo are doing well.
