On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. said PNC Bank told him it would no longer support his news aggregation app. The former president’s son attributed the bank’s move to “cancel culture” during a live broadcast on Newsmax with anchor John Bachman.
Trump made the remarks during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering of many well-known Republicans, in Washington, D.C. Senators Ted Cruz of Texas, J.D. Vance of Ohio, and Nikki Haley, a former UN ambassador, are among the speakers at the event. On Friday morning, Trump Jr. is scheduled to address the CPAC audience, and on Saturday night, his father will perform.
Before connecting the letter’s message to “the cancel culture that’s going on in our society right now, the weaponization of corporate America,” Trump told Bachman that he “received a fascinating letter from a bank this week.”
Trump initially promised Bachman he would discuss the letter’s contents during his CPAC speech, but he soon revealed the letter’s purportedly PNC Bank source. Trump declared, “I’ll drop it here first,” adding that the letter dealt with transactions he had with MxM News, a conservative news aggregation app he had founded in 2022.
In essence, PNC Bank breaks things off with us via text message—not even a phone call, he claimed. “A letter with a cashier’s check for, you know, what we had in an account for a news aggregator, not even someone producing like right-wing propaganda, but something that takes all the news to make sure that you see it,” the man said.
Trump did not elaborate on the supposed letter’s motivation, and it was not obvious why PNC Bank allegedly wanted to stop doing business with MxM News.
The response continued, “Our account closure decisions are never driven by politics. PNC does not comment on the closure of specific accounts, which may happen for a variety of reasons. “As a national bank, we understand and respect the diversity of political ideas held by our clients and employees.”
The younger Trump is also the executive vice president of the Trump Organization and the host of the podcast Triggered, in addition to MxM News, which he founded with Taylor Budowich, a former spokesman for Trump Sr.
