Trump Critic Chris Sununu Declares Media & Dems Overplayed Their Hand With Rumored Arrest of Donald Trump

The possibility of former President Trump's arrest soon in connection with an investigation into alleged hush-money payments made during the 2016 election, according to Governor Chris Sununu (R-N.H.), is increasing support for the former leader.

During CNN's "State of the Union," Sununu commented on the potential arrest, saying, "I think it's developing a lot of sympathy for the former president." Republicans who aren't "huge Trump supporters," according to the governor, voiced concern that the previous president "was being assaulted."

As we approach the '24 election, Sununu stated, "I just think that not just the media, but frankly, a lot of the Democrats have misplayed this in terms of garnering sympathy for the former president. Trump, who is running for president once more in 2024, stated in a Truth Social post on Saturday that he anticipates being detained on Tuesday as a result of alleged hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. He also urged his supporters to demonstrate in support of him.

On Sunday, Sununu emphasized that the potential arrest has nothing to do with the violence that occurred on January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and said that other problems should come first.

"Something from seven years ago is being questioned as to why they are doing it. It's not nothing, but he alleged that money was being transferred between him and his attorney. In terms of where this country has to go, what we need to do to get things done, how we manage our budget, and how we safeguard the border, you know, there are other matters that really take precedence," Sununu added.

"There's much more serious issues of the day. It's sad that this has garnered attention.

Although Sununu didn't officially announce his campaign on Sunday, he did said he'd "love to participate in a debate if we actually go down that path." Sununu has previously stated that he is considering running for president in 2024.
