Retail pharmacies may obtain certification from the FDA to deliver abortion drugs to customers who have a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional, according to a statement made by the FDA earlier this year. Historically, clinics, doctors’ offices, hospitals, or under the direct supervision of a licensed healthcare professional had to prescribe and deliver abortion medicine.
Although it has not made it clear in which states it aims to sell the medicine, CVS has also stated that it intends to go through the certification process to offer the abortion pill.
