GM, along with many other car manufacturers have been rolling out electric models left and right, which seems to have been spurred on by President Biden who told automakers he expects EVs to make up 50% of their new vehicle sales by 2030.
However, General Motors is facing a rather dismal first quarter as only two of their new Hummer EVs have been sold and the company is blaming this poor performance on production issues.
As reported by Fox News, the issue is supply, not demand. GM is still ramping up production and the Hummer EV was hit with a recall late last year to address an issue with its battery packs that could allow water to seep into them.
Production was paused as a solution was implemented and wasn't restarted until Jan. 31, a GM spokesperson told FOX Business. Replacement batteries needed to be manufactured and shipments of new trucks didn't begin again until the end of the quarter. GM has not disclosed the current rate of production, but the Wall Street Journal reported last month that it was approximately a dozen per day.
Of course, all cars, electric or not, have production issues, but to only get two cars sold within four months is pretty embarrassing.
What do you think? Is the new EV Hummer going to be a success or a massive flop?
