Man Gets Silver-Plated “Grill” Stuck in His Lung After Accidentally Swallowing It

Prepare yourself for a bizarre tale...

A young man hailing from Wisconsin, aged 22, following an epileptic seizure, he found himself plagued by fits of coughing and profound wheezing that bewildered him to the core.

Driven by concern, he promptly sought medical aid, leading to the revelation of a peculiar predicament. X-ray scans unveiled an object lodged within his lungs, a remarkable mass measuring 4 centimeters in length.

Strikingly resembling dentures, this mysterious entity left the young man flabbergasted. He confided in the medical professionals attending to him, recounting how he had adorned himself with silver-coated grills during the fateful seizure, only to discover their inexplicable disappearance upon recovery.

From Oddity Central

The patient was scheduled for a bronchoscopy to have the object removed. A bronchoscope was inserted down the airway to dislodge the dental accessory. The patient experienced bronchospasm – where muscles in the lung airway tighten – from the operation and was given steroid treatment before being discharged.

Had the silver-plated grillz gone down the other pipe, they would have passed through the esophagus and into the stomach, before being excreted, but this way, the dentures became stuck in one of his lung airways.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we write about people swallowing weird things. We previously wrote about a woman who accidentally swallowed a 30-cm-long vomiting tube, a woman who swallowed a spoon, and about a man who swallowed his toothbrush.

My goodness, what an astonishing trend of ingesting such sizable foreign objects!

The notion of swallowing one's own toothbrush or grillz seems unfathomable, particularly considering the difficulty some individuals face even when attempting to consume a large vitamin, which can trigger an instant gag reflex.
