Autopsy Reveals GA Man Who Was Eaten Alive By Bugs in Prison Died of “Neglect”

This story is undeniably chilling.

According to the legal team advocating for the family of a Georgia man, there is a distressing account surrounding his untimely demise in September, while he was confined in prison. Their claim asserts that a private autopsy conducted by the Thompson family revealed his death was a result of extreme negligence.

Lashawn Thompson, aged 35, had been detained in Fulton County Jail for a period of three months, during which he reportedly experienced a significant decline in his health. The autopsy findings indicate that he lost a staggering 32 pounds during his time in custody and went without crucial medication for an equal number of days.

The report also alleges Thompson was covered in lice that could have caused him to suffer from anemia.

The autopsy was completed by Dr. Roger Mitchell of RAM Consulting, who said because care was withheld from Thompson, his condition “deteriorated.”

Mitchell wrote, “The combination of dehydration, rapid weight loss and malnutrition complicated by untreated decompensated schizophrenia led to a fatal cardiac arrhythmia of Lashawn Thompson.”

He added, “Had Mr. Thompson received adequate care during his incarceration at the Fulton County Jail than he would not have died at the time that he did.”

“When he was found to be suffering from his illness, acute and urgent care was not provided to him. It is because of this severe neglect that Mr. Lashawn Thompson died. Therefore, the death of Lashawn Thompson is best classified as a homicide,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell’s report states Thompson had an “innumerable number of insects” on his head hair, face, facial hair, nose, mouth, chest, pubic area, arms and legs.

Thompson, who was homeless, ended up in jail after Georgia Tech police found him sleeping in a park outside a childcare center in Atlanta in June 2022, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Officers found a warrant for his arrest in Dothan, Alabama, on a 2017 car theft charge and also charged him with simple battery after he allegedly spit on one of the officers.

This unfortunate individual was gravely let down by the system.

Irrespective of his imprisonment, it is an unequivocal truth that no human being should ever meet such a tragic fate.
