New Mexico Woman Finds Cocaine On Her Sonic Hotdog

Imagine pulling into your local Sonic to order a hot dog, but as you take a bite, you notice a suspicious bag containing a white powdery substance.

Instantly, you realize that this substance isn't powdered sugar; it's something far more sinister.

Police in Española, New Mexico, made a disturbing discovery after a woman reported finding a bag of white powder in a hot dog she ordered at a local Sonic. According to court documents, Celine Gonzales visited the Sonic on South Riverside on Tuesday and came across the suspicious bag while taking a bite of her hot dog.

Law enforcement officers conducted tests and confirmed that the substance in the bag was a gram of cocaine.

From KOB4:

In their report, officers said Gonzales spit out the bag, but they didn’t say whether she ingested any of the drug.
On Thursday, a KOB 4 crew saw that the Sonic is still open.

“I think that’s pretty scary. We come here to get food for our families, and if a child found that it could have been pretty bad or deadly,” one woman said after ordering food.

“That’s kind of crazy,” one man said while leaving the location. “I just got an ice cream. I hope we’re good.”

Police said a cook is responsible. They charged David Salazar with cocaine possession, which is a felony charge.

Officers said they watched surveillance video from inside the Sonic and claim after making Gonzales’ food, Salazar looked like he was “frantically searching for something he lost.”

Police said he admitted to them it was his cocaine, and told them he bought it from someone in the Sonic parking lot.

This situation is unsettling. It is alarming to witness not only instances of drugs accidentally ending up in customers' food but also the realization that active drug deals are taking place in fast food parking lots.

Stories like this serve as a stark reminder of the drug epidemic plaguing our country. The fact that such incidents are infiltrating ordinary, everyday life is a distressing reflection of the extent to which this issue has permeated our society.
