The unfortunate incident occurred when an elderly woman, aged 84, accidentally drove her Toyota RAV4 into the customer reception area of Hamer Toyota on Wednesday morning. This resulted in the fatal collision that took Yadira Calito's life.
From Page Six:
While Calito was waiting for her car to be serviced, an 84-year-old woman drove her white Toyota RAV4 into the covered service bay driveway.
Authorities at the scene said the driver mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake..
Calito was “pinned under the SUV and dragged for about 20 feet” before bystanders came together to help free her from under the car, per TMZ.
She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead.
Two others were also injured in the crash, but are expected to make full recoveries.
I'm sorry, but this woman should immediately have her license revoked.
It's evident that her motor skills have diminished due to aging, rendering her incapable of safely navigating a vehicle.
Frankly, there ought to be a stipulation that individuals beyond a certain age must undergo a reevaluation of their driving abilities. Implementing such a measure could potentially prevent a tragedies like this.
