Mother of Five Dies After Ripping Out Teeth With Her Own Hands

After using cocaine at a family barbeque, Kiera Kent, a 29-year-old mother of five, tragically passed away when she attempted to pull out her aching teeth with her own hands.

She had been complaining about her teeth after taking the cocaine and was also scratching and pulling at her skin. Later, when she went upstairs and didn't come back down, her partner Liam Crabtree went to check on her. He found her lying on the pillow upstairs, surrounded by blood, with her hands in her mouth.

From The Sun UK:

Kiera was also scratching and pulling at her own skin. Liam had to wrestle her after she picked up a razor and tried to put it in her mouth. He then called 999, explaining his partner was trying to pull her own teeth out.

Police rushed to the scene thinking they were dealing with a mental health crisis and requested an ambulance, but there was a considerable delay until the responders arrived.

PCs Gemma Henderson and Leanne Gould handcuffed Kiera's hands in front of her to protect her. When she stopped breathing they commenced CPR for 30 minutes before paramedics arrived and she was sadly pronounced dead.

The inquest heard how Kiera previously had problems with her wisdom teeth.

Giving evidence, DC Lindsay Cork told the court a post-mortem report showed scratches and abrasions consistent with Kiera pulling at her own skin. There was also evidence she had put her hands into her mouth and caused significant injury.

DC Cork explained how both Kiera and Liam used cocaine previously in the evening before Kiera's behaviour became "bizarre and erratic".

Assistant coroner for Cornwall Guy Davies explained that although Kiera's cocaine level was not in the toxic range, it is possible that it can cause death by creating an electrolyte/chemical imbalance, even when no anatomical reasons for death are apparent.

Mr Davies said the cocaine accounted for the medical episode that caused Kiera's death. A cause of death was recorded as acute behaviour disturbance following cocaine use.

How terrifying her last moments must have been.

Our hearts reach out to this family, and we hope they can find comfort and strength as they navigate through this incredibly challenging period.
