A man fired off thirteen rounds through his front door after two robbers tried to break into his apartment. Surprisingly, no injuries were reported, but these thugs definitely got a surprise of a lifetime when a simple robbery turned into a one-sided shoot out.
From The American Wire:
Saturday at around 6 p.m., Ethan Rodriguez was at home in his apartment in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas when someone came to his door claiming to be a maintenance worker. Soon thereafter, suspicious claims about needing to check the air filters proved false when the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Aaron Contreras, returned with a masked individual and attempted to break down the door.
The suspect who had communicated with Rodriguez through a doorbell security system could be seen holding a gun as he attempted to kick open the door before stepping aside as the other individual tried to bust through. When next they traded places, the resident opened fire sending the suspects ducking for cover and fleeing for their lives.
“I check the camera to see who’s all at the door and I saw him kicking the door with a firearm and fearing for my brother’s life I just let the gun go. I didn’t know what to do,” Rodriguez told KDFW’s Amelia Jones.
According to a police affidavit, 13 bullets had been fired from inside the apartment through the door and two additional shots were attributed to the suspect, with no injuries reported. The video that showed police responding to the incident and speaking with the resident later went viral online and was said to have resulted in a CrimeStoppers tip identifying Contreras as the suspect and leading to his arrest.
With a criminal history dating back to 2013 that included previous charges of robbery and burglary, Contreras’ arrest Monday saw him charged with aggravated assault, deadly conduct, and attempted burglary.
“I’m guessing he just thought this was just going to be a lucky payday and no one’s home and this is just free stuff to steal here. No, he thought wrong,” Rodriguez said to KDFW after having suggested, “This was basically just a random attack. We couldn’t have expected any of this. He’s not linked to anybody in my family or anybody that we know.”
This just proves not to underestimate anyone. Honestly, you sometimes never know who's packing heat and unfortunatley for these thugs, they found out the hard way.
