A school district in Rochester, New York is grappling with the devastating  loss of one of its teachers.

Courtney Fannon, a 29-year-old special education  teacher who was on the brink of welcoming a new life into the world, tragically collapsed and was discovered unresponsive by her colleagues. Both she and her unborn child were pronounced  dead at the hospital. As of now, the cause of death remains undisclosed, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

From The Sun:

Family friends and community members have been deeply saddened by the news, with the district's Superintendent issuing a statement on Tuesday.

"We are saddened to share news of the unexpected loss of Courtney Fannon, a Kendall Elementary School teacher," the statement read.

The schools were closed for the day to observe a grieving period and the statement went on to describe the deceased educator.

"Courtney was a special education teacher who served her students with passion and joy each day," it added.

"When she wasn't in her classroom sharing her love and gift for teaching with her students, she could be found walking our halls with a smile and a friendly hello."

The district plans to provide ongoing and further support to students and the community, starting with counselors stationed at the elementary school starting on Tuesday.

Fannon was well loved by all, as a GoFundMe set up in her and Hadley Jaye's honor described that there is an "endless amount of positive and good things" that can be said about the mother.

"She was a special education teacher in the Kendall School District and was the perfect person to fill the role," the fundraiser description continues.
"She was loving, genuine and organized in a way that always placed her students ahead of herself, ultimately changing the lives of her students and caregivers, always for the positive."

"If there was one thing that was made apparent, she was the mom of our friend group," it continued.

"Courtney was always prepared for any and all possibilities, and just when you had something you never thought would happen occurred, she was there with all the things you could imagine to fix the problem."
