Andy Biggs Introduces Articles Of Impeachment Against DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who serves in the administration of President Joe Biden, on the grounds that Mayorkas has been negligent in his duties at the southern border, where a historically high number of illegal immigrants were apprehended in the month of December. During a press conference outside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, Biggs said that he had filed articles of impeachment against the official who had previously been confirmed by the Senate. He was joined by more than a dozen other conservative Republicans.

Biggs emphasized that “we don’t willy-nilly take upon ourselves the thought of impeaching a member of the Biden Cabinet.” “The territorial integrity of the United States of America is being systematically eroded before your eyes. The southern border is not under American authority. Mexican drug gangs run the show there. Insight like that is crucial for comprehending the gravity of the measures we must take.”

Representative Pat Fallon (R-Texas) introduced three articles of impeachment against Mayorkas two weeks prior to their introduction by the new committee. “It was also my pleasure to introduce articles of impeachment against Alejandro Mayorkas. To avoid any confusion, let me explain. There is unity between all parties, “- Fallon – Said. “Since there has been a serious lack of responsibility, I sincerely hope that more papers are submitted. As a group, we have a common purpose. We must get rid of AM now.”

Biggs stated that Mayorkas purposefully weakened the immigration system by fighting and repealing numerous Trump-era border policies.

“Obviously, this is on purpose. In no way does this constitute carelessness. This is not a fluke. Ignorance is not to blame “exclaimed Biggs.

Since Biden assumed office in 2021, his government has halted work on the border wall, sued to overturn a program that obliged asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico, stopped removing the vast majority of illegal immigrants, and restricted the arrest powers of federal immigration officials.

Biggs, who had been the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus in 2021, called for Mayorkas’ removal from office in December 2022 and had unsuccessfully introduced articles to impeach Mayorkas in 2021.

This news arrives on the same day as the first significant oversight action taken by the Republican majority in the House, a hearing on the crisis at the border. Impeachment articles must be authorized by the House Judiciary Committee, on which Biggs serves, before they can be debated on the House floor.
