Buttigieg Gets Support For Dems Who Blame Trump For Ohio Railway Catastrophe

California Democratic Rep. John Garamendi said on Monday that former President Donald Trump was to responsible for a railway catastrophe that caused deadly chemicals to flow, while simultaneously supporting Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s handling of the crisis.

On February 3, a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed close to East Palestine, Ohio, causing authorities to issue shelter-in-place orders and order evacuations. On February 6, officials issued a probable “catastrophic blast” warning and conducted a controlled chemical burn, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The United States Congress and the Republicans who presided over the Trump administration in the past prevented the implementation of safety regulations for the nation’s railroad systems, according to Garamendi, who spoke to Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer. “We must now move forward. Buttigieg needs to pick up the pace and advance the safety requirements. Sure, he should go there, but what problem would that solve?

Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has drawn criticism for how he handled the derailment, especially for delaying public discussion of the incident until he posted a thread on Twitter on February 13. Buttigieg voiced concern about the demography of construction workers on the same day.

“Pete Buttigieg had the chance to discuss this issue yesterday. Instead, he discussed the overabundance of – and this is not a joke – too many white guys in the construction sector, claimed Ohio senator J.D. Vance, a Republican, during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday. “It is not now a major problem for our nation. East Palestine’s current situation is. Real issues must receive the Secretary of Transportation’s attention, not made-up ones.

Donald Trump, a former president, stated on Friday that he would travel to East Palestine on Wednesday.
