In response to growing public demand for government officials to be transparent about how they handled the election, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, will perform a recount of the results of the 2020 presidential election. The decision was taken by the county commissioners in response to a petition with 5,000 signatures asking for a recount, according to the Epoch Times.
According to officials, the bulk of the petition was a driving force behind gaining the recount because the county has about 70,000 registered voters.
In order to restore public confidence in the results of our elections, Lycoming County Director of Elections Forrest Lehman told the outlet, “that’s when county commissioners decided, as the board of elections, that if there are 5,000 people who signed this petition and have this belief, then we need to hand count these ballots.”
In order to establish once and for all that our voting system accurately counts the votes and that there weren’t thousands of uncounted votes that were concealed by an algorithm or some other nonsense of the like, he continued, “This is not something we want to do after every election, but we need to do it once, at least.”
While the county tabulates the final results of its elections using voting machines, authorities tabulate the nearly 60,000 paper votes cast in the election by hand. The outcomes of the contest for state auditor will also be discussed.

Lehman told the Times, “We chose the auditor general as the second fight for two reasons. There is no need to flip over each ballot because it is on the front of the ballot with the president. The choice of auditor general was made for another reason: it was a statewide election that a Republican won. Because it is evident that a Democrat won the presidential election.
The recount is scheduled to start on January 9. Lehman expressed optimism that the recount will contribute to rebuilding voter confidence in the county’s elections and provide reassurance that the election was fair.
Supporters of former President Donald Trump’s accusations that widespread voting fraud altered the outcome of the 2020 presidential election have focused on Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state.
