In a letter delivered to President Biden on Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) questioned the president’s visit to El Paso, a border town in the south. The letter, which was written by Abbott, stated: “Your visit to our southern border with Mexico today is $20 billion too little and two years too late.” The governor gave it to Biden as they greeted each other on the tarmac.
The letter continued, “Additionally, your visit avoids the locations of mass illegal immigration and avoids the hundreds of irate Texas property owners whose lives have been ruined by your border policies.”
To “protect” Biden from “the mayhem that Texans endure on a daily basis,” Abbott said in the letter that downtown El Paso had been “sanitized of the migrant camps” that he claimed had taken over the city.
Abbott responded, “Your inability to enforce the immigration rules that Congress enacted is the direct cause of this mess.

In the letter, the governor, who has often slammed the Biden administration for the migrant crisis, accused the president of giving cartels more power and encouraging them to send fentanyl across the border, a point Republicans frequently bring up when attacking border measures.
Abbott outlines five policy areas he wants Biden to address, including Title 42, the Trump-era policy that permits migrants to be quickly expelled at the border without going through the asylum process, and complying with the laws requiring that “various categories of aliens’shall’ be detained” to stop “unlawfully paroling aliens en masse.”
Abbott also urged resuming the construction of the border wall in Texas right away, prosecuting illegal entry between ports, allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deport people who are in the country illegally, and designating Mexican drug cartels “as foreign terrorist organizations.”

Abbott stated before outlining the requirements, “When you finish the photo-ops in a perfectly stage-managed version of El Paso, you have a job to do.”
In the letter, Abbott also complimented the border measures of the former president Trump, saying they led to “historically low levels of illegal immigration.”
Democrats have blasted the Texas Republican for dispatching buses of migrants from Texas to a number of Democratic areas, including a bus carrying over 100 migrants on a chilly Christmas Eve.
Abbott blasted the administration earlier on Sunday for not informing local officials about the president’s travel to the border until the previous evening. Biden will visit the southern border for the first time on Sunday since taking office.
