With the release of his new single “Joe,” Luke Combs revealed who the song is dedicated to in a special statement. The award-winning country musician stated why this song from his next album, “Gettin’ Old,” is something he’s wanted to share with his fans for years in an Instagram post published on Friday.
Combs stated in his statement that “there have been some people in my family who have struggled with drinking and addiction throughout the years.” “I have friends who lead sober lives, and I’m sure you all know someone who has struggled with these kinds of things, or perhaps you struggle with them yourself.”

For that reason, “Joe” is incredibly essential to me,” he continued. Combs talked on how the issue of drinking in country music may have an impact on listeners who are sober or who are currently battling addiction.
We have so many songs in our genre that are about drinking and having a good time; I’m probably one of the worst offenders, he wrote. There is nothing wrong with that, in my opinion, but occasionally I wonder what someone in the crowd who doesn’t drink or battles addiction is thinking or experiencing when there are thousands of people nearby yelling “Beer Never Broke My Heart” or “1, 2 Many.”
“Joe” is for those people, according to Combs. He continued, “I’ve always wanted a song for those individuals to have for themselves. A song they can chant at the top of their lungs and feel like they’re not forgotten.”
He concluded the message by saying, “So, if you’re reading this and this music appeals to you, I hope you love it. You get this one, I said.
Combs, Erik Dylan, and James Slater wrote “Joe.” Combs stated that he knew he wanted to be a part of the song when Dylan first played it for him a few years ago. “Gettin’ Old,” Combs’ fourth studio album, will be released on March 24. In a statement, he said that the song was about “the stage of life” he was in.
Coming of age is about loving where life is now while also missing how it used to be, continuing to fall in love with the person you love and loving them no matter what, living in the moment while still pondering how much time you have left, family, friends, being thankful, and leaving a legacy, he said. “I hope you love it as much as we do. Myself and so many others have put our hearts and souls into this record.” Two more tracks from the album, “Love You Anyhow” and “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old,” have already been made public.
